Duke University

Mr. Zachary F Caffall, MS, is a Research Analyst in the Departments of Neurology and Neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center. Since 2008 he has been studying the molecular mechanism of DYT-TOR1A early onset generalized dystonia in the laboratory of Dr. Nicole Calakos, MD, PhD. His recent work has identified disruptions of the Integrated Stress Response pathway as a novel pathomechanism common to at least three forms of primary dystonia (Rittiner & Caffall et al., Neuron 2016). His current research focuses on discovery of disease modifying small molecules as well as the molecular targets of these compounds.
