Haiyan Fu, PhD

Dr. Haiyan Fu is a research associate professor at UNC-CH Gene Therapy Center, Department of Pediatrics. She received her medical training and MSc in medical microbiology in China, and PhD in virology in the Institute for Animal Health (UK). Her major research focus has been on developing gene therapy approaches for neuropathic lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs), leading to three IND approvals for Phase 1/2 rAAV9 gene therapy clinical trials in patients with MPS II, IIIA and IIIB. Her research interests also include scale-up rAAV vector production, pre-existing α-AAV-Abs, and neuropathology and biomarkers of neurogenetic diseases.
